Hereford Whitecross Club had 34 entries for the 2007-8 season annual squash handicap tournament. Several new and junior members entered for the first time, two of them reached the finals. In the plate competition, for the first round losers, the final was contested by Dave Sandford and Dan Little. Dan had a thirty two point start so Dave had to concentrate as the American scoring means that every point counts, if you make a mistake that is a point to your opponent. In the end Dave's experience and fitness showed as he won 3-0. In the main competition Steve Hill had a battle with Jack Bishop, nearly thirty years separated them. Although Jack was the younger player his fitness could not make up for Steve's determination, Steve finally won 3-1 in a very entertaining match.
Terry Mac Squash Handicap Competition 2008
The Terry Mac Handicap Competition was held over two weekends with the Finals of the full and plate knockouts held on Saturday 12th January
Both finals went to 5 games with Dave Thompson fighting back from 2 games down to win 3 - 2 against Colin Powell in the Plate event. The full competition was an all Allman affair with brothers Dave and Tom fighting it out. Younger brother Tom went two games up but Dave clawed back the next two games as Tom seemed to suffer fatigue and Dave's extra power began to tell. Tom, however found extra reserves of determination and energy in the fifth to take the last game by the closest of margins at 17 - 16.
All in all, arguably the best finals since the competition commenced!
Hereford Whitecross Club Squash Championship 2007/8

Although Mike gave everything in the last game Tom's experience showed and he finally won 10-8, 9-0, 5-9, 6-9, 9-0, retaining his title 20 years after winning it for the first time. The men's Plate final was won by Tim Stubbs beating Dave Witts 3-0. This year the ladies played around robin competition to decide the winner. Janie Allman and Sharon Howarth had some great games but in the end it was between Tanya Smythe and Sarah Fleming. Sarah was hard pushed but won 2-0 to retain her title.
